Ipas builds women’s’ and community leaders’ capacity to address stigma, discrimination, power imbalances and the marginalization of women—all of which contribute to poor reproductive health outcomes and limit women’s access to quality services. We also know the importance of community-led solutions to the problems of unsafe abortion and other public health issues.
We strive to increase the capacity of women and communities to prevent unwanted pregnancies, decrease unsafe abortions and increase access to comprehensive reproductive health information and services. Our community strategies include efforts to:
•Expand women’s—particularly young women’s—knowledge, skills and ability to prevent unwanted pregnancies and access safe abortions, including medical abortion;
•Identify and mitigate barriers to abortion information and care;
•Strengthen communities’ ability to prevent unwanted pregnancies, decrease unsafe abortions and increase access to comprehensive abortion information, care and services as a basic human right.
Through knowledge-sharing, consciousness-raising and respectful partnerships, we work with local and national groups in countries around the world to strengthen the voices and capacity of individual women, collective groups and the broader community to address sexual and reproductive health and rights. In all community work, Ipas prioritizes addressing the needs of youth and reducing abortion-related stigma.
